5 Ways to Embrace and Connect with Your Inner Child with Love

Healing the inner child is considered to be an essential stage in recovery from addiction, abuse, trauma, or post-traumatic stress disorder.


I must confess that I am a person who has been most of her life neglecting and abusing her own inner child.

A long time ago, I don’t even remember when I started to separate and break my relationship with my inner child.  I think everything started when others were telling me to grow up, to stop being a child, that it was time to behave like an adult and be concerned what others have to say, in other words, STOP BEING ME.   I disconnected and forgot that inner child ever existed and that she once was in my life.

Almost 2 years ago I started my healing and spiritual journey, having the most wonderful results in my life. I got in contact again with my inner child, I healed, embraced connected with that lost child within me.  I learnt how to love her, to nurture her, and understood that my inner child has a very important part of my life.   The lack of relationship with that child played a huge part of my problems for most of my life.

As adults, we are able to overcome many difficulties and adversities.  However, by embracing, connecting, loving, nurturing and taking care of our inner child in those difficult times when she/he need it the most, will help her/him to get stronger, and will help us also to recover quicker from those difficult times that with sometimes find ourselves in.


Connect with your inner child with Love


  1. Getting to know and discovering more your inner child. Connect and ask questions, such as: What do you like? What do you dislike? What frightens you? How do you feel? What do you need? How can I help you feel safe? How can I make you happy?
  1. Design Self-care activities. Be around like – minded people that support you, join groups with similar interest as you, meet people with laid back attitude and not competitive mindset. Find respect and respect other equally.
  1. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Look for a place that will inspire you and reawaken your creativity.  As children appreciate and have fun learning and developing new skills, such as colouring, painting, writing, music, etc.
  1. Play and have fun. Include more fun and reinvent yourself, that will help you to improve your self-esteem.  Change your routine, schedule some movies, walks with friends, dance, a day at the spa, and why not add some music to your life.
  1. Write a letter of support to yourself. It is important that you express your inner child, so be sure you address the following: Pain, Anger, Regret, Fear. Write with your none dominant hand, this way it will help you to bring back those feeling from your subconscious mind
